Event Description
Unpacking Treatment Approaches and Roles within Mental Health
This educational session is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the diverse treatment approaches and professional roles involved in contemporary mental health care. The presentation will explore the multidisciplinary nature of mental health services, outlining the responsibilities and contributions of practitioners, counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists, allied health professionals, and support services in supporting individuals with mental health conditions.
The session will examine the range of therapeutic interventions currently available, including established evidence-based treatments, emerging therapies, and newer interventions that are entering the market but may have limited long-term evidence. Participants will gain insight into the effectiveness, appropriate application, and limitations of different treatment modalities across a range of mental health conditions. Consideration will also be given to contraindications, suitability of treatments for specific populations, and the importance of collaborative care models.
Through this presentation, attendees will develop a deeper understanding of how different professional roles interact within the mental health system and how treatment selection is informed by clinical need, evidence base, and patient circumstances. The session aims to strengthen participants’ knowledge of available services and improve their ability to navigate treatment pathways and referral options.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
• Identify the key roles and responsibilities of professionals working within the mental health sector.
• Describe a range of common and emerging treatment approaches used to support individuals with mental health conditions.
• Understand the effectiveness, indications, and potential contraindications associated with different treatment modalities.
• Recognise the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in providing comprehensive mental health care.
• Improve awareness of available therapies and support services to inform referral pathways and treatment planning.
Delivery Mode
The session will be delivered as a formal educational presentation supported by slides and evidence-based references. Participants will have the opportunity to engage through a facilitated question and answer session. Attendees will also be invited to pre-submit questions prior to the event, allowing the presenter to incorporate relevant topics and ensure key areas of interest are addressed during the session.
Assessment / Evaluation Methods
Participant learning and engagement will be supported through interactive discussion and Q&A. Attendees will be encouraged to reflect on how the information presented may influence their professional practice. Feedback and evaluation will be collected through post-event surveys to assess knowledge gained and the relevance of the session to participants’ roles.
