RSL Victoria invites all RSL compensation, and wellbeing advocates as well as our partner organisations supporting the veteran community to attend a special workshop on trauma-informed approaches to assisting vulnerable veterans.
This important session will feature guest presenters from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Specialised Case Team and Dr. Alex Lim, Clinical Psychiatrist and spokesperson for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Dr. Lim specialises in Veterans’ Affairs and trauma-related psychiatric issues and will provide valuable clinical insight into best-practice support for veterans who have experienced trauma, including those affected by sexual assault or severe psychiatric illness.
The session will explore:
• Understanding the impact of trauma on behaviour and communication
• Recognising indicators of distress and applying supportive engagement techniques
• Ensuring advocacy practices uphold psychological safety and dignity
• Referral pathways and collaborative approaches with DVA’s Specialised Case Team
