Objectives
At the end of this training module participants should be able
• When faced with situations of having to deal with angry and difficult situations, reduce risk to self and others by applying the B.E.B.R. approach for verbal threats to defuse the situation. If it escalates to physical aggression, then apply the B.A.I.R. response
• When engaged in conversation with people and be able to identify the visual and auditory markers that could indicate whether it is safe to continue the conversation or warrants immediate escalation to management.
• After a challenging incident, be able to participate in or conduct a structured debrief using the organizations preferred debrief model and feedback any learnings to stakeholders
Learning outcomes of this package is for participants to learn about:
• sharing information between shifts, locations, workers and support services • how to assess and minimise risk in the workplace
• the importance of keeping control of your emotions
• the importance of team work & consistency in your ethical response
• the steps to avoid reasonable or foreseeable risk of injury
• identify and avoiding potential incidents and behaviour triggers,
• develop appropriate measures for the prevention and proactive risk management
• the therapeutic response strategies to challenging behaviours for the de-escalation of a situation
• the ethical response to avoid physical confrontations in the workplace
